Yesterday, I toured the Onx factory and saw how modern technology can help us address Jamaica’s housing needs. The company is bringing its manufacturing operation to Jamaica, with a factory that will produce complete homes locally.
Phase one of the Jamaican factory is expected to produce up to 5,000 homes annually, with the capacity to expand to 10,000. The homes will include one-, two- and three-bedroom options, targeting the affordable and lower-income housing market.
Jamaica has a significant housing gap, and I believe we have to increase the supply of homes at the scale and pace our people need. Bringing this kind of investment and technology to Jamaica is part of how we can make that happen.
