The federal government is the world's largest buyer. Redirecting that spend domestically is a structural boost for American manufacturers.
The cost is efficiency, as Buy American mandates historically raise procurement costs, which matters when you're already running trillion dollar deficits.
The real question is whether short term cost premiums translate into long term supply chain resilience. Industrial policy can work. It built semiconductors, the interstate system, and the space race. Execution is everything.(Lark Davis)
