According to a report by Golden Finance, crypto investigator ZachXBT stated that law enforcement agencies "mistakenly detained" suspects in the 2022 Bored Ape NFT case, which involved the theft of $1.4 million. ZachXBT claims to have identified wallets associated with the fraud and linked them to a now deleted X account. In 2023, former Yuga Labs security researcher Sam Curry was arrested at the airport for the case. ZachXBT pointed out, "Unfortunately, a security researcher has been detained while stronger clues about possible culprits already exist." He also stated that Curry used a private key embedded by the attacker in the website's JavaScript during the investigation. ZachXBT used on chain fund flow tracking to identify a more likely suspect and called on law enforcement to investigate their social media and on chain transaction data.
