Solana will launch Alpenglow upgrade on October 21st, with trading finality reduced to approximately 150 milliseconds
Odaily Planet Daily News: Public chain Solana will launch the Alpenglow upgrade on the mainnet around 3:00 pm (UTC) on October 21st, replacing the validator consensus system as a whole. The upgrade will eliminate TowerBFT, with the goal of reducing transaction finality from the current approximately 12.8 seconds to approximately 150 milliseconds. After the upgrade, voting transactions will no longer be included in the block, and Solana's public trading volume and TPS will significantly decrease, but the actual activity will not decrease as a result. Ordinary users do not need to operate, Solana Virtual Machine、 The transaction format, procedures, and fees remain unchanged. The function switch will be activated in the 1064th epoch, and TowerBFT will continue to run for approximately 5000 slots, or about 18 minutes, before being taken over by Alpenglow. Each voting account is required to pay an additional 0.8 SOL validator access fee, which will be destroyed; The launch time for the Rotor upgrade has not been announced yet.
