XRP's chain dropped a vulnerability report yesterday. Not many people are talking about it. The heaviest issue in there traces back to code written in 2015. The first two things I talked about were related to borrowing/lending. But today's issue is directly on the chain itself. When a single payment eats up a lot of orders, the backend adds up the amounts. Once it hits the limit, it loops back and turns into a much smaller number. Sellers still get paid the original price, but buyers are only charged that smaller number. The on-chain check that's supposed to catch "magically created" coins uses the same addition logic. The report came from a bounty hunter on September 22. To test it, they listed a few hundred intentionally mispriced orders, then sent a single payment through them, staking a few hundred coins. The patch was released on September 25, but it was only disclosed yesterday. A sweep of the chain showed no one had exploited it on the public network. The 100 billion cap that's been in place since 2012 hasn't been touched, and it wasn't affected this time either. The old vulnerabilities uncovered this year all seem to have AI fingerprints behind them. I'm betting a few more decade-old issues will surface before the end of the year. #XRP #Crypto #Blockchain #AI #BugBounty
