Modern-day supply chain attack? The well-known Bitcoin hardware wallet Ledger has been exposed—some users reported that the Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies stored in their purchased hardware wallets suddenly disappeared.
The common factor among these users is that their hardware wallets, used to store crypto, were purchased from the Southeast Asian distributor CryptoBillis, rather than through official channels.
Currently, market speculation suggests that the Southeast Asian distributor CryptoBillis may have tampered with the hardware wallets before selling them to users. Possible tampering includes pre-setting mnemonic passwords known to others or modifying the hardware firmware.
As a result, the official Ledger team has urgently issued a precautionary warning and launched an investigation into this distributor.
