[Crypto Industry Prepares for Trump Links as Democrats Vow to Investigate Presidential Family] BlockBeats reports on November 8th, citing the Financial Times, that following the Democrats' victory in both houses of Congress in the US midterm elections, they have pledged to investigate the Trump family and their ties to the crypto industry. Crypto executives are preparing for stricter congressional scrutiny. Robert Garcia, who will chair the House Oversight Committee in January, stated that the investigation will include the Trump family and their crypto business revenues. Last year, Trump earned over $1.16 billion through crypto asset sales and token royalties, a significant portion of which came from his family's project, World Liberty Financial. This project will be a key focus of scrutiny by the Senate investigation committee, tentatively led by Senator Richard Blumenthal. World Liberty previously stated that Trump has not been involved in the company's affairs since taking office. Over the past two years, Blumenthal and other Democratic senators, including Elizabeth Warren, have repeatedly questioned companies like Binance and Tether about alleged illegal activities, but company executives have mostly ignored these inquiries. With Democrats controlling both houses of Congress, they will be able to invoke subpoena power, and ignoring subpoenas could result in civil or criminal penalties. Ron Hammond, Head of Policy and Advocacy at Wintermute, stated that even companies that have legally obtained licenses from agencies led by Trump appointees should be prepared for scrutiny if they are also considered significant donors to Trump or his projects. In this election, the crypto industry poured nearly $200 million into the Fairshake Super PAC and another Tether-backed PAC, but many of the elections they supported still suffered losses. Fairshake's funders include Coinbase, Ripple, and a16z. Joshua Riezman, Chief Legal and Strategy Officer at GSR, stated that the pressure from the new Congress on the crypto industry will be real, and its demands will differ from the previous Congress. However, he also believes that as Congress gains a deeper understanding of the crypto industry, investigations are expected to be more targeted, distinguishing between benign and unscrupulous players within the industry.
