🇺🇸UPDATE: Senate Republicans are pushing to turn Trump's AI safety agreement into LAW, per Axios.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune says Congress is considering laws to make AI safety rules legally binding, rather than relying only on Trump's voluntary agreement with tech leaders.
Republicans are divided. Some want STRICTER rules, while others believe AI companies should regulate "THEMSELVES".
Sen. John Kennedy questioned whether AI companies care more about safety or IPO profits.
The bigger question is whether Washington will leave AI safety to companies like OpenAI, Anthropic and Google or establish legally binding rules for the industry.
