S&P Global Ratings has affirmed Jamaica’s ‘BB’ long-term and ‘B’ short-term sovereign credit ratings, with a stable outlook. The agency cited Jamaica’s fiscal consolidation and institutional strength, while recognising the impact of Hurricane Melissa on the economy and public finances.
As Jamaica continues its recovery, this assessment provides important recognition of the country’s fiscal management and institutional framework. S&P expects the economy to rebound in 2027 and 2028, supported in part by major rebuilding and post-Melissa reconstruction.
We remain focused on rebuilding stronger, restoring livelihoods and supporting communities affected by the hurricane, while maintaining responsible management of the country’s finances and creating the conditions for sustainable growth.
