[Barclays: Timing of the Next Rate Hike by the Bank of Japan Unclear, Actions Expected in January and July]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on September 21, Barclays economists stated in a report that Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda appeared to deliberately mix hawkish and dovish rhetoric during last Friday's press conference to maximize future policy flexibility. The Bank of Japan does not yet seem to have a clear view on the timing of the next potential rate hike. Barclays expects the Bank of Japan to raise rates further in January and July next year, with the terminal rate reaching 1.75%. Barclays believes that after the terms of two hawkish members expire in July 2027, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's government may appoint new dovish members, thereby reinforcing the Bank of Japan's overall tendency to maintain the status quo.
