TOYS ‘R’ US TO OPEN 120 NEW U.S. STORES IN FIRST MAJOR EXPANSION NEARLY A DECADE AFTER FILING FOR BANKRUPTCY Toys "R" Us is making its biggest brick-and-mortar comeback yet. Nearly a decade after the iconic toy retailer filed for bankruptcy and subsequently shuttered its stores across the United States, Toys "R" Us is opening 120 new standalone locations across the country in time for the holiday shopping season. The expansion, announced in a company press release on Thursday, Sept. 17, is being carried out in partnership with Go! Retail Group and will add 120 locations to the 40 standalone Toys "R" Us stores currently operating in the U.S., bringing the retailer's total to 160 by the holiday season.
