[Institution: The Threshold for Further Rate Hikes by the Federal Reserve Is Not High] Jin10 Data, September 17 – PGIM Chief U.S. Economist Robert Sorkin stated that signals from the Federal Reserve's latest meeting indicate that only a slight push could lead the Fed to implement three rate hikes, or even more if necessary. This rate hike is considered a hawkish move, with the Fed signaling one more rate hike this year. Among the 18 Federal Reserve officials who submitted forecasts, 8 expect a total of three rate hikes in this cycle by the end of 2027. In a report, Sorkin noted that Federal Reserve Chair Walsh mentioned the Fed had "withdrawn some easing measures," which suggests that he and other participants view Wednesday's action as merely a small step toward tightening financial conditions, implying that more actions may follow. Sorkin added that if inflation remains elevated, the risk of further rate hikes by the Federal Reserve remains high.
