[Russia Mandates Taxpayer Identification Number for Opening Crypto Accounts]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on September 11, according to Bits.media, Vlada Grachova, an advisor to the Russian Federal Financial Monitoring Service, stated that customers will be required to provide a taxpayer identification number when opening accounts with Russian digital custody institutions. This measure aims to ensure the transparency of cryptocurrency transactions and prevent money laundering activities. Previously, providing a taxpayer identification number was not mandatory for opening bank accounts.
Additionally, the Russian Financial Monitoring Service has been granted authority to oversee all crypto transactions. For transactions exceeding 60,000 rubles, relevant institutions must report complete information about both parties involved to regulatory authorities, including names and actual addresses.
Meanwhile, the Russian Central Bank is studying mechanisms to link taxpayer identification numbers with bank accounts. The related "anti-fraud" platform is expected to officially launch in 2027.
