[South Korean Retail Investors Make Major Portfolio Adjustments in September: Selling NVIDIA, SK Hynix, and Spending $400 Million on SOXL] According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on September 6, South Korean media outlet MK reported that data from South Korea's securities information portal shows that since September, South Korean individual investors have significantly reduced their holdings in several U.S. semiconductor stocks while increasing their positions in leveraged semiconductor ETFs. Net sales include over $100 million in Micron, $68.61 million in SanDisk, $49.37 million in Marvell Technology, and $15.56 million in NVIDIA. SK Hynix ADR, which just debuted on the NYSE in July, saw net sales of $46.16 million during the same period, despite cumulative net purchases reaching $811 million by the end of August. In contrast, South Korean retail investors made net purchases of $431 million in SOXL (Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bull 3X Shares) during the same period. SOXL aims to deliver three times the daily return of the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index. Market analysts believe this "selling individual stocks, buying sector ETFs" strategy may indicate that South Korean retail investors are reducing the risk of holding positions in single chip companies while continuing to bet on the growth potential of the overall semiconductor sector.
