Looks like Trump’s short positions on US stocks and long positions on crude oil are spot on. After Monday’s market open, there’s no TACO suppressing oil prices—either there’s confidence in tomorrow night’s CPI, or they’re taking the chance to pop the bubble.
That said, the recent news only pushed WTI up by just over $1 to around the $75 hourly resistance level. The market’s fatigue and desensitization are on full display. Maybe this back-and-forth volatility is intentionally being used to dissipate momentum through friction, so that even if there’s an escalation in the future, the stress can be released in advance.
But even if it’s slow, as long as the US-Iran situation doesn’t ease, there’s still a good chance of a gradual push to $80.
