[Zhipu Plans to Develop In-House AI Chips, Engages with Chip Companies to Address Computing Power Shortages]
Odaily Planet Daily News - According to informed sources, Zhipu is evaluating the possibility of designing in-house AI chips to address the rapid growth in demand for its GLM series open-source large models and the computing resource constraints caused by U.S. export restrictions. Recently, the company has initiated preliminary discussions with several Chinese chip design firms to explore the joint development of a custom AI processor optimized for its model operation scenarios.
Zhipu is one of China's leading AI large model companies, with its GLM series models gaining attention for their open-source strategy and performance. As the scale of large model applications expands, high-performance computing resources have become a critical bottleneck for the development of AI enterprises. Developing in-house chips is seen as a way to reduce reliance on external GPU supplies and improve computing efficiency.
Currently, Zhipu AI has not made a final decision on whether to proceed with the chip project, and the related plans are still in the early evaluation stage. (The Information)
