Zhipu considers self-developed AI chips to cope with the rapidly growing demand for GLM models

Insiders say that with the rapid growth in demand for its GLM series open-source AI models and the increasing constraints on computing power resources due to US export controls, Zhipu AI is evaluating its self-developed chip solutions. Zhipu AI is headquartered in Beijing and is one of the leading AI laboratories in China. Its GLM series open-source models have attracted market attention. Three individuals with direct knowledge of the relevant plans stated that Zhipu AI has recently made preliminary contacts with some Chinese chip design companies, inquiring about the possibility of collaborating on the development of customized AI processors.
