[Samsung Union Approves Wage Agreement, Avoids Strike Risk] According to a report by Jinse Finance, on May 27, Samsung Electronics' union in South Korea announced on Wednesday that it had voted to approve a provisional wage agreement, avoiding a strike that could have disrupted the global chip supply and impacted South Korea's economy. The union stated that nearly 74% of the 62,616 employees who participated in the vote supported the agreement. The approval of this agreement ends a five-month-long intense dispute between the two sides over performance bonuses. Last Wednesday, after South Korea's labor minister intervened at the last minute to mediate, labor and management initially reached a tentative agreement, just hours before the unionized employees were scheduled to go on strike. Under the finally approved agreement, Samsung will implement a new 10-year special performance bonus system for its semiconductor division, while overall wages will see an average increase of 6.2%.
