Glassnode research shows that 6.04 million BTC (approximately $469 billion) have exposed public keys on-chain, accounting for 30.2% of the circulating supply, theoretically at risk of future quantum computing attacks. The remaining 13.99 million BTC have no public key exposure.
Glassnode states that exposed supply is divided into structural exposure and operational exposure. Structural exposure accounts for 1.92 million BTC (9.6%), while operational exposure accounts for 4.12 million BTC (20.6%), mainly due to address reuse. Exchanges stand out in operational exposure, with 1.66 million BTC involved, representing 8.3% of the total supply and about 40% of all operationally insecure BTC.
Glassnode emphasizes that these findings should not be interpreted as a risk ranking or solvency signal for specific companies. (Decrypt)
