Xi Jinping and Putin Discuss Middle East Conflict and Global Energy Disruptions After meeting Xi Jinping in Beijing, Putin stated that China-Russia relations are at an unprecedented high, while Xi described the relationship as unbreakable. Xi also took a jab at the U.S., seemingly criticizing unilateralism and hegemony running rampant in the international system. (A slap in Trump’s face) On the Middle East conflict, Xi told Putin that the region is at a critical juncture and called for an early end to the conflict, especially to ensure energy supply. “Achieving a comprehensive ceasefire is urgent, reigniting hostilities would be highly unwise, and maintaining negotiations is particularly important,” Xi said. When discussing Iran nearly shutting down the Strait of Hormuz and its disruption to global energy supplies, Putin referred to the energy sector as the engine of economic cooperation, adding that against the backdrop of war, Russia will continue to be a reliable resource supplier for China.
