[NVIDIA's Jensen Huang Says China Should Not Have Access to the Most Advanced Chips, but the U.S. Should Allow Competition in China]
According to Nikkei Asia, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated that China 'should not have' the most advanced chips, but the U.S. should allow NVIDIA to compete in the Chinese market. He believes that policies restricting NVIDIA from exporting chips to China essentially hand over the Chinese market to domestic technology companies.
Huang noted that U.S. export controls have reduced NVIDIA's market share in China's AI accelerator market to 'zero,' while Chinese technology is maturing and could potentially compete with U.S. companies on a global scale. He argued that if the U.S. wants to maintain its leadership in the AI field, it should enable global developers to build on the U.S. technology stack, rather than abandoning critical markets through export restrictions.
He also pointed out that China has a large number of AI researchers and developers, and if U.S. companies cannot participate, China's domestic chip and software ecosystem will have room to grow.
