[Detroit City Attorney to Submit Amicus Brief Supporting Michigan's Motion for Injunction Against Coinbase]
According to Cointelegraph, attorneys representing the City of Detroit plan to submit an amicus brief in the lawsuit between Coinbase and the State of Michigan. Judge Shalina Kumar of the Eastern District of Michigan has approved the submission of the amicus brief by Detroit's attorneys, supporting Michigan authorities' motion for a preliminary injunction. The submission deadline is April 3.
Last December, Coinbase filed lawsuits against gambling regulators in Michigan, Connecticut, and Illinois, aiming to clear obstacles for launching its prediction market services. The company argues that prediction markets fall under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) rather than state gambling regulators.
