A Chinese hacker team has revealed internal strife, claiming to have stolen approximately $7 million in encrypted assets
BlockBeats reported that on March 17, according to the official account of the "Internet Investigation Institute", a hacker team in China had internal strife due to a dispute over the sharing of stolen goods. Members publicly disclosed that they had stolen about $7 million of encrypted assets through supply chain attacks, targeting platforms such as the Cryptowallet Trust Wallet.
According to the leaked content, the team operates under the name of the cybersecurity company "Wuhan Anshun Technology" and publicly engages in activities such as vulnerability mining, network attack and defense, and security services. However, they actually engage in black and gray activities such as theft of encrypted assets internally. Team members claimed that they obtained mnemonic words in bulk and scanned multi chain assets, including Ethereum, BNB Chain, Arbitrarum, and other networks, through Electron client supply chain vulnerabilities, plugin reverse analysis, and automation tools.
The informant stated that the team had developed automated tools to scan mnemonic assets in bulk, and stole wallet data through remote control programs, then transferred and split the funds for processing. The related attacks reportedly involve 37 types of tokens and multiple blockchain networks.
The trigger for the exposure of this incident was an internal dispute over the distribution of spoils. The whistleblower claimed that he had conflicts with the team leader due to unfair distribution of profits, and publicly disclosed relevant evidence after the severance compensation was not fulfilled. He also planned to surrender to law enforcement agencies.
At present, the relevant allegations have not been officially confirmed, and the details of the incident still need further investigation. Industry insiders pointed out that this incident once again highlights the security risks of the encrypted wallet supply chain and plugin security, as well as the trend of targeted attacks against high-value users.
