[US CFTC Issues Advisory on Prediction Markets] BlockBeats News, March 12 – The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has issued an advisory report on prediction markets, focusing on the trading and listing of event contracts. In light of the rapid development of prediction markets, the agency aims to encourage the growth and innovation of these markets while reminding Designated Contract Markets (DCMs) of their regulatory obligations under the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA) and Commission regulations. The advisory highlights the regulatory responsibilities of DCMs in complying with Section 5(d) of the CEA, Part 38, DCM Core Principle 3, and Appendix C guidelines, as well as product submission requirements. Additionally, it discusses certain details that may be particularly applicable to sports-related event contracts. The Division of Market Oversight believes that, as frontline regulatory entities, DCMs should take proactive measures to ensure their markets continue to comply with the requirements of the CEA and Commission regulations as they evolve.
