On my way to the Taxpayer Press Conference at UMass Club to discuss our TWO-PRONG DAT SQUEEZE. DAT = Democratic Accountability & Transparency Squeeze. Part 1 - Over 24 Taxpayers including Republicans - Democrats - and Independents have filed suit under a CENTURY OLD LAW - G.L. G.L. c. 29, § 63 - enacted to recognize that every taxpayer has a proprietary interest in the state treasury. 72% of voters made it the law of the land for the @massauditor to audit the people’s money. The legislature then paid a law firm FROM THE PEOPLE’S MONEY - to stop the audit of the people’s money. 🤯 😡 @MassAGO says the @massauditor MUST get the AG’s permission to file the transparency lawsuit filed by @DianaDiZoglio. Incredibly, it looks like the AG will try and dismiss the Auditor’s lawsuit. But in the landmark case Sears v. Treasurer (1951), the Supreme Judicial Court made it clear: taxpayers do not need the permission of the AG to demand that the law be followed. The court ruled citizens have standing to ensure public duties are enforced - REGARDLESS of whether the AG agrees. Part 2 - We’ve called upon the federal government to freeze all non-essential, non-emergency discretionary federal funding to the Commonwealth. No more Ribbon-Cutting projects for elected officials in MA UNTIL they comply with the audit.
