Black River will be rebuilt, but we must confront the realities of today. The town was designed centuries ago, long before climate change, modern traffic, and stronger hurricanes were factors. If Black River were being built now, it would not be placed in the same location. That is why I directed the Urban Development Corporation to explore options for developing a new, safer town more inland, close to Black River, to support future growth and resilience. Our focus is on building smarter and preparing Jamaica for what lies ahead.(Andrew Holness)
