Binance
At the end of the year, scammers are also starting to charge for performance
Today, I would like to share with you a new type of fraud tactic we have encountered, and at the end of the year, I also remind everyone to pay attention to financial security
The cause of the incident was that the customer service received a complaint from a user that they had been deceived by a certain "Binance executive" for a sum of money. The other party promised to help him solve some things, but as soon as the money was transferred, there was no news
Out of a responsible attitude towards our users, we conducted a thorough investigation and found that the more we checked, the more we realized something was amiss
1. An extremely simple scam
The user provided two pieces of "evidence": a Telegram chat screenshot with the "executive" and a transfer record. The chat content is very simple, with only one page from beginning to end - the user asks if they can help, and the other party says the package is okay, so the user directly transfers money. The so-called 'executives' did not even verify the details from beginning to end, only asked for the name of a' project ', and did not even act. The user has "absolute trust" and transferred the money without hesitation
2. Abnormal transfer records
The transfer records provided by the user are also very strange. At first, he claimed that the fraudulent wallet address was an address starting with "TP", but upon checking the data on the blockchain, we found that the "TP" address was actually the one that initiated the transfer. In other words, the user's initial claimed fraudulent address is likely to be their own address
3. Disappearing chat records
We asked the user to provide real-time chat records, but the user said that the other party had enabled privacy mode and all chat records were deleted. They could only provide a screenshot of the "post questioning"
4. Real and fake executive accounts
We thought it was a fake account, but after careful comparison, we found that the account questioned by the user was actually a real Binance executive account. The executives themselves were completely unaware and their accounts were not stolen. So, who exactly is lying?
After further confirmation with the relevant team, we have finally restored the truth - this is a self-directed and self staged scam targeting Binance and its users
The user first forged chat records and transfer records (using a certain guarantee platform), then falsely claimed that the chat records were deleted, and then found the real executive account for questioning, creating two sets of "executive" screenshots. Then, he took the conversation records of the real executive account to customer service, requested verification, attempted to induce a response from customer service, and threatened to pressure them through social media if they didn't help solve the problem
Similar scams are happening every day in reality. In the past, we rarely took the initiative to share and had many concerns, which led to rampant scammers and to some extent facilitated speculative behavior among certain interest groups
This time, we have decided not to remain silent anymore. The purpose of public sharing is to raise awareness and prevent various new types of fraud. At the same time, we solemnly warn fraudsters and speculators not to underestimate Binance's determination to protect every user. We always adhere to a responsible attitude towards users, and we will never shirk or avoid any issues that fall under Binance's responsibility; But for those who attempt to frame Binance and confuse the public through fraud, deception, and other means, we will resolutely expose and pursue relevant responsibilities in accordance with the law, and will never tolerate them
It should be reminded again that Binance will not proactively contact users through unofficial channels, nor will it require users to transfer funds or pay any fees to designated addresses
