Although Vitalik's idea of perpetual contracts on the Gas chain can partially alleviate potential future Gas congestion issues, I firmly believe that problems solvable through system mechanisms shouldn't rely on financial derivatives. For example, I have a more elegant solution: This new mechanism is the Gas Difficulty Adjustment Mechanism. Ethereum calculates the average gwei every 7 days: - If gwei is too low, the gas limit is reduced for the following week. - If gwei is too high, the gas limit is increased for the following week. Additionally, a system parameter is set to control the annual average gas limit at around 60M. This way, Ethereum's ledger won't expand excessively, and peak gwei won't be too high, while trough gwei won't be too low. Let the future borrow space from the present!
