[South Korean Man Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison for Operating Fake Stock Trading Platform and Laundering $2.9 Million Using Cryptocurrency] Odaily Planet Daily News – A South Korean court has sentenced a man to eight years in prison for creating a fraudulent securities trading platform and laundering $4.2 million in criminal proceeds through cryptocurrency. The fake trading platform used the logo and other data of a certain 'well-known' securities company in an attempt to fabricate authenticity. The Gwangju District Court's Criminal Division handled the case, with presiding judge Kim Young-gyu learning that the platform operator defrauded 116 victims, involving a total amount of $4.2 million. Judge Kim sentenced the man to eight years in prison. Judge Kim stated that money laundering was a key element of the criminal scheme, and the defendant played a critical and leading role in the laundering process, bearing significant responsibility. The court deemed it necessary to impose a severe punishment. The 43-year-old man was convicted of violating South Korea's Internet Fraud Law. Three accomplices were also tried alongside him and were sentenced to prison terms ranging from two and a half to three years for assisting the man in using undisclosed cryptocurrencies to 'conceal criminal proceeds.' The court learned that the three accomplices, all aged 41, helped the man convert $2.9 million of investor funds into crypto assets through a series of transactions involving corporate bank accounts and private wallets.
