[Mt. Gox Hacker Sold Approximately 1,300 Bitcoins in the Past Week] BlockBeats News, December 24: According to monitoring by Arkham analyst Emmett Gallic, entities associated with Aleksey Bilyuchenko, who has been accused by the U.S. Department of Justice of being the Mt. Gox hacker, deposited 1,300 BTC (worth approximately $114 million) into unknown trading platforms over the past seven days. The related addresses still hold 4,100 BTC (worth $360 million). A total of 2,300 BTC have been sold so far. Public information shows that Aleksey Bilyuchenko, starting in 2011, co-operated BTC-e with Alexander Vinnik. BTC-e was an infamous trading platform accused of laundering money for global cybercriminals, including ransomware, identity theft, and drug trafficking. BTC-e was shut down by law enforcement in 2017. The U.S. Department of Justice accuses him and Aleksandr Verner of hacking into Mt. Gox (then the world's largest Bitcoin trading platform) starting in 2011, stealing approximately 647,000 BTC (which led to Mt. Gox's bankruptcy). They are charged with conspiracy to launder money and using part of the stolen funds to operate BTC-e.
