[60,000 BTC Money Laundering Case: Main Perpetrator Qian Zhimin Purchased a Total of 194,951 BTC Between 2014 and 2017] BlockBeats News, November 16: According to a report by Caixin, between 2014 and 2017, Qian Zhimin, under the name of Lantian Gerui, launched ten so-called 'zero-risk, high-return' financial products such as 'Lantian No. 1,' 'Lantian No. 2,' and 'Youli Youbi.' Through promotional events and pyramid scheme-style recruitment, she lured the public into investing with promises of high interest rates. Over approximately four years, the total amount of illegal fundraising reached over 40 billion yuan, affecting nearly 130,000 people. Of these funds, 34 billion yuan was used to pay returns on earlier products, while tens of billions were siphoned off for Qian Zhimin and her accomplices. A significant portion of the funds was used by Qian Zhimin to purchase cryptocurrency. According to information from a UK court, in June 2014, Qian Zhimin instructed her 'front person' to open an account for her on the cryptocurrency trading platform Huobi. Using 180 million yuan of investor funds, she purchased 100,250 BTC. Subsequently, the account's Bitcoin holdings increased to 143,951 BTC. Between January and June 2017, she purchased an additional 51,000 BTC through over-the-counter (OTC) transactions using 468 million yuan of investor funds. In total, Qian Zhimin purchased 194,951 BTC. Qian Zhimin's defense lawyer stated that she first learned about Bitcoin in 2012 and that 'her ambition was to one day own 210,000 BTC, which would account for 1% of the total Bitcoin supply.' She nearly achieved this goal. The defense lawyer also claimed that the average purchase price of Bitcoin on Huobi was 2,815 yuan per BTC (the calculation method is unclear). By the time of her sentencing in the UK, the price of Bitcoin had risen 266 times to 750,000 yuan per BTC.
