[Analysis: U.S. Government Shutdown Pushes the World into a Data Blind Spot, Global Risks Surge Over Time] Odaily Planet Daily News – Adam Posen, Director of the Peterson Institute for International Economics and former Bank of England policymaker, stated that the government shutdown itself and the turmoil surrounding the Bureau of Labor Statistics "intensify widespread doubts about U.S. governance and reliability... This is significant. It will ultimately impact reserve management and monetary decisions, and introduce volatility prospects previously unseen in the U.S." As a major gap emerges in data streams covering approximately one-quarter of global economic output, the longer the government shutdown persists, the more uncertain the outlook becomes. "Of course, there is still a substantial amount of information available, and policymakers are putting significant effort into gathering micro-level data and anecdotal evidence about the U.S.," said Robert Kahn, Global Macro Director at Eurasia Group. "But how best to integrate this information, and importantly, how markets will react to these messages, remain critical unknowns. Over time, accumulating uncertainty increases the risk of errors."
