Former Bitfury executive Jonathan Gould confirmed by Senate as OCC Director According to The Block, the US Senate has approved the nomination of former Bitfury Chief Legal Officer Jonathan Gould as the Director of the Office of the Superintendent of the Currency (OCC) with a vote of 50:45. The appointment is pending final signature by President Trump. Gould served as Senior Deputy Auditor General of OCC from 2017 to 2020, and recently worked at blockchain company Bitfury. It is worth noting that crypto friendly senator Cynthia Lummis voted against it during the procedural voting stage, citing the need to further communicate with Gould on issues such as stablecoin legislation and federal banking law priority, but switched to support during the final vote. OCC has implemented multiple crypto friendly policies this year, including explicitly allowing banks to buy and sell crypto assets for themselves, and removing references to "reputation risk" from regulatory manuals, but emphasizing that banks still need to manage related risks properly.
