Metaplanet Inc. and SBI VC Trade Co. Ltd. have announced a strategic partnership to advance bitcoin trading, storage, and management, effective Sept. 2, 2024. This alliance supports Metaplanet’s “Bitcoin First, Bitcoin Only” strategy, which focuses on bitcoin’s scarcity and non-political monetary policy.

Simon Gerovich, Representative Director of Metaplanet, opined:

This collaboration is part of our ongoing effort to engage with leading industry stakeholders in Japan who support our corporate Bitcoin accumulation strategy.

The company has accumulated approximately 360 BTC through debt and equity financing. This partnership grants Metaplanet access to SBI VC Trade’s corporate custody services, which prioritize tax efficiency and allow bitcoin to be used as collateral.

Gerovich added:

A key element of this partnership is access to a compliant corporate custody service that prioritizes tax efficiency and offers the potential to utilize Bitcoin as collateral for financing.

SBI VC Trade, part of the SBI Group, a major Japanese financial conglomerate, emphasizes safety, security, and regulatory compliance. The company offers crypto asset-backed leverage trading, which allows the use of crypto assets as margin, along with attractive funding rates and narrow spreads for leveraged transactions. Additionally, SBI VC Trade provides an exemption service for end-of-period mark-to-market tax on crypto assets, which further enhances financial flexibility for companies like Metaplanet in the expanding crypto market.
