Among the victims was a septuagenarian who received a message via WhatsApp from a stranger claiming to be a Singapore-based 'crypto investment expert.' Following the instructions, the victim set up a wallet, purchased USDT and ETH, downloaded a counterfeit investment app provided by the scammer, and transferred assets to a designated address. The fake app initially displayed profits to entice further investment, but when the victim attempted to withdraw funds, the request was denied, revealing the scam. The total loss amounted to over HK$13 million.
