[Hong Kong Monetary Authority Releases Quantum Readiness White Paper and Index to Assist Banking Industry in Embracing the Quantum Era] On July 27, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) released the 'Quantum Readiness White Paper for the Hong Kong Banking Industry' at the 8th FiNETech1, along with the first-ever Quantum Readiness Index and related industry support measures. The Quantum Readiness Index indicates that the banking industry's deployment of quantum computing is at an initial stage, with an index score of 2.3 out of 10. The survey shows that approximately 68% of respondent banks have either developed awareness or entered the planning and pilot stages, while 32% have yet to begin transition efforts. About half of the banks have not formally established post-quantum cryptography (PQC) plans. At the board level, around half of the banks have discussed the application of quantum computing, and about one-third have started exploring or piloting quantum technology applications. The HKMA will introduce PQC tools, host workshops, and implement other support measures, aiming to fully prepare the banking industry for the quantum era by 2030.
