[South Korean Court Orders SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won to Pay Nearly $643 Million in Divorce Case]
According to Jiemian News, the Seoul High Court in South Korea issued a ruling on July 24, ordering SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won to pay his ex-wife Roh Soh-yeong ₩944 billion (approximately $643 million) in the divorce property division case. Both parties can still appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court.
Reports indicate that since Chey Tae-won filed for divorce mediation in 2017, legal disputes between the two have continued to this day. In the first trial in December 2022, the court ordered Chey Tae-won to pay ₩100 million in compensation for emotional distress and ₩66.5 billion in property division. In the second trial in May 2024, the court ordered Chey Tae-won to pay ₩2 billion in compensation for emotional distress and divide ₩1.3808 trillion in assets.
The appellate court recognized that Roh Soh-yeong, along with her father, the late former president Roh Tae-woo, had provided financial support and made contributions to the growth and expansion of SK Group.
