[SK Chey Tae-won: Planning to Build a Factory in the U.S. to Increase Supply and Address Abnormally High Prices]
According to a report by Jinse Finance on July 20, citing Korean media, due to demand for memory chips far exceeding supply, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won stated that SK Hynix is scouting locations in the U.S. for a chip factory. The goal is to enhance supply capacity and curb prices. As a major player in the industry, he believes the current price levels are excessively high and represent an 'abnormal' phenomenon. Chey Tae-won said: 'I think we need to build (chip factories) not only in Gwangju and Jeolla Province but also in the United States.' 'If conditions permit, I believe construction should proceed. This involves trade pressures and other factors that need to be weighed, so we are currently considering this.' (Jin10)
