Why Texas weather affects your Bitcoin transaction:
Bitcoin block times so slow yesterday afternoon. I got more than 1 message about this!
That's because Texas is having a record breaking energy pricing event and ERCOT's 4CP is firing.
4CP = "Four Coincident Peak"
ERCOT (Texas's grid) tracks the single highest 15-minute grid demand interval in each of June, July, August, and September.
Large commercial and industrial customers (including datacenters) that are on wholesale transmission tariffs get billed a share of transmission costs based on their own usage during those four specific 15-minute windows.
TL;DR: If you don't know which interval will be the peak, the strategy is just to curtail/turn off during the high risk loads windows (typically 4p - 7p US Central)
SO if it's going to be stupidly hot in Texas, your bitcoin transaction will probably take longer to confirm in the afternoon.
