[Walsh on Supreme Court's Ruling Regarding the Federal Reserve: 'We Need Not Worry About Political Factors'] In response to this week's Supreme Court decision preventing President Trump from dismissing Federal Reserve Governor Cook, Federal Reserve Chairman Walsh provided his initial remarks: 'Before the Supreme Court's ruling, the Federal Reserve has always operated independently and adhered to its statutory duties. Following the Supreme Court's decision, the Federal Reserve will continue to do so... I trust federal judges appointed under Article III of the Constitution and firmly believe in the spirit of the rule of law. We will comply with the Supreme Court's ruling, but from an operational perspective, this decision reaffirms our stance: we are doing our utmost to fulfill our duties impartially, much like an umpire calling balls and strikes. We take reform goals seriously and will honor the critical commitments entrusted to us by Congress—namely achieving price stability within the framework of the 'dual mandate.' As long as we accomplish this, there is no need to worry about political interference or judicial intervention. We can focus on the task at hand.'
