[Infineon Announces €5 Billion Semiconductor Factory Set to Begin Operations on July 2]
Golden Finance reported on June 12 that Infineon Technologies AG stated the company is preparing to launch its largest single investment to date—a €5 billion (approximately ¥39.2 billion) semiconductor factory. According to the announcement, the construction of the factory has been subsidized by the European Union and aims to boost chip production. Infineon Chief Operating Officer Alexander Gorski said this week at the factory site that the power chip manufacturing plant is an expansion project of the company's Dresden campus and will officially begin operations on July 2. The project is a major beneficiary of the EU's "Chips Act," receiving approximately €1 billion in subsidies. Gorski stated that the chip output of the Dresden factory will be gradually expanded based on demand, with the potential to generate up to €5 billion in annual revenue. However, he declined to specify when the factory would reach full operational capacity. He added that the company has already invested around €2 billion in construction, with the remaining funds to be allocated in phases for adding more equipment to the wafer plant.
