[South Korean Police Launch First Investigation into Polymarket Users for Alleged Illegal Gambling] According to Deep Tide TechFlow on June 5, citing a report from *Chosun Biz*, South Korean police are investigating domestic users of Polymarket, the world's largest prediction market platform, on charges of violating Article 246 of the Criminal Code (gambling offense), which carries a maximum fine of 10 million KRW. The investigation is being led by the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency under the direction of the National Police Agency headquarters, marking the first criminal investigation in South Korea targeting Polymarket users. The investigation covers users from across the country. It is reported that South Korean users placed bets on the platform using stablecoins pegged to the US dollar, with no restrictions set by the platform. For instance, the June 3 local elections alone attracted betting volumes amounting to tens of billions of KRW.
