[U.S. Department of Justice Investigates Former Congressman George Santos for Insider Trading on Kalshi] According to NPR, the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating former Congressman George Santos for insider trading activities on the prediction market platform Kalshi. Sources revealed that in February of this year, Santos released a video stating he would attend Trump's State of the Union address but ultimately did not appear. Prior to this, he had placed bets on himself not attending, profiting tens of thousands of dollars. After detecting Santos's trades, Kalshi froze his account and referred the case to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the Department of Justice. Both agencies have launched investigations into Santos. Santos himself denies any knowledge of the investigation. Santos was previously charged in 2023 with 13 counts of wire fraud, money laundering, and stealing political donations, and was sentenced to over seven years in federal prison. However, due to a commutation by Trump last October, he served only four months.
