[Increase in Crypto-Related Kidnapping Cases in France: 135 Incidents in Two and a Half Years, Minors Involved, 75 Detained]
According to a report by Jinse Finance on April 25, the French National Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (PNACO) announced that since 2023, a total of 135 cases of kidnapping or attempted kidnapping related to cryptocurrency have been recorded in France.
Data shows that among the 12 cases currently being followed by PNACO, 88 individuals have been formally investigated, including more than 10 minors, with approximately 75 people currently in custody awaiting trial.
Prosecutors stated that the increase in these cases is due to the judicial authorities consolidating multiple scattered cases to address the rapidly evolving nature of crimes related to crypto assets. Data indicates that there were 18 such cases in 2024, rising to 67 in 2025, and reaching 47 so far in 2026.
PNACO emphasized that this criminal trend is closely linked to the growing use of crypto assets and has become one of the significant new forms of organized crime.
