🚨NEW: Scammers are demanding CRYPTO payments in exchange for "safe passage" through the Strait of Hormuz. Fraudsters posing as Iranian authorities are sending stranded vessels fake messages demanding Bitcoin BTC and Tether USDT payments in exchange for safe transit, according to Greek maritime risk firm MARISKS. The scam message, cited by MARISKS: "After providing the documents and assessing your eligibility by the Iranian Security Services, we will be able to determine the fee to be paid in cryptocurrency (BTC or USDT). Only then will your vessel be able to transit the strait unimpeded at the pre-agreed time." Iran recently confirmed it is charging ships $1 per barrel to transit Hormuz, payable in BTC or stablecoins.(Coin Bureau)
