[US Media: US Claims Vance to Lead Delegation to Islamabad to Restart Talks, Iran Suspects It’s a “Cover for a Raid”] According to a report by Jinse Finance on April 20, citing the AXIOS website, US officials revealed that Vice President Vance will lead a delegation to Islamabad for a new round of talks with Iran before the ceasefire expires on Tuesday night, aiming to reach an agreement or extend the ceasefire. This meeting could provide a last-minute opportunity to secure a deal or at least prolong the ceasefire—though Iran has yet to confirm its participation and suspects this might entirely be a White House ploy. In a brief call with Axios on Sunday local time, Trump expressed optimism about the so-called talks. “I feel good. The concept of the agreement is done. I think we’re very likely to finalize it,” he said. However, the Iranian side is lowering expectations and seems to suspect that Trump’s talk of an agreement might be a cover for a US raid. As of Sunday afternoon, Iran had not confirmed whether it would send negotiators to Islamabad, with several Iranian officials suggesting that Trump’s true intention might be to reignite the war. The Iranian state news agency denied plans for talks, stating that the Trump administration’s “unreasonable and unrealistic demands, frequent changes in stance, ongoing contradictions,” and continued blockade make it so that “there is no clear prospect for productive negotiations.” It remains unclear when the talks are expected to begin or when Vance will depart Washington.
