[Iran Requires Oil Tankers to Pay Bitcoin as Passage Fee for Hormuz Strait]
BlockBeats News, April 8, according to the Financial Times, Iran will require shipping companies to pay passage fees denominated in cryptocurrency for oil tankers passing through the Hormuz Strait during a two-week ceasefire period, as a means to maintain control over the waterway.
Hamid Hosseini, spokesperson for the Iranian Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Products Exporters Union, stated that each tanker must report its cargo information to Iranian authorities via email. Iran will then inform them of the required passage fee amount, which must be paid in cryptocurrency. The fee is set at $1 per barrel of oil, while empty tankers can pass for free. "Once the email is received and Iran completes the assessment, the vessel will have a few seconds to pay in Bitcoin, ensuring it cannot be tracked or seized due to sanctions."
