Andreessen Horowitz's a16z crypto pointed out in their latest blog that many developers currently use 'ZK' as a synonym for 'succinctness' rather than true zero-knowledge privacy. This is because most zkVMs require a costly 'wrapping' process to achieve genuine zero-knowledge properties. The firm also announced the introduction of the NovaBlindFold folding scheme for the open-source Jolt zkVM, enabling the system to generate hidden proofs without revealing input data, thereby supporting privacy applications. After the upgrade, the zero-knowledge proofs generated are only about 3 KB larger than the original non-ZK proofs.
