[Trump to Convene Tech Giants: Sign Pledge to Generate and Use Their Own Electricity]
According to Golden Finance, U.S. President Trump will convene tech company executives at the White House next week to sign a pledge requiring these companies to pay for the electricity consumed by their energy-intensive data centers.
A White House official stated that representatives from companies including Amazon, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, and Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc. are expected to attend the event with Trump on March 4. The invitation list also includes Elon Musk’s xAI, Oracle, and OpenAI.
Although these pledges are non-binding and lack legal enforceability, government officials believe that public formal commitments can bring accountability and provide some reassurance to consumers concerned about the rapid development of data centers (which are critical for artificial intelligence) potentially leading to environmental damage and rising costs.
