The annual deficit reached 901.5 billion US dollars, one of the largest deficits on record since 1960. The trade deficit in December reflected a 3.6% increase in imports, while exports of goods and services decreased by 1.7%. The market generally expects the total trade deficit in December to be 55.5 billion US dollars.
